Chris Charlton endorses Brian Topp to Lead NDP

Thursday, January 19, 2012

Hamilton - Today, Hamilton Mountain MP and Chief Whip Chris Charlton endorsed Brian Topp for leader of the NDP.

A three-term MP, and “Best Up and Comer” of 2006 and a “Hardest Working MP” in 2010, Charlton took her time to see the whole field of candidates in action before deciding to support Topp.

“Brian is a compassionate New Democrat. I have worked with him and seen him in action as Party President and as the National Campaign Director," said Charlton. "We all know that he has great political instincts, but now our membership is getting an opportunity to see something I've known for a long time: Brian is a leader who can bring our caucus together, bring Canadians to the NDP and defeat Stephen Harper."

Charlton is well respected within the caucus and the party. She has worked extensively on seniors issues, for working people and for everyday consumer affordability. Appointed Chief Opposition Whip by Jack Layton in May 2011, Charlton has been a driving force in transitioning the party to the official opposition.
